Online Content Can Hurt Job Seekers
Do you have a facebook page? It’s great isn’t it? You can keep in touch with old friends and family and even make new
friends using this social media site. What you may not know is that your facebook, MySpace and even your twitter account could hurt your chances to get a job or cost you the one you have.
More companies are starting to look at candidates facebook profiles when considering who to hire. A recent study for CareerBuilder.com showed that 45 percent of employers are reviewing social networks to screen candidates. So is your facebook page hurting your job chances?
One of the best rules of thumb when it comes to what to post to any social media is if you wouldn’t want your parents/grandparents to see it, then you probably shouldn’t post it. You can always google or bing yourself to see what comes up. While I don’t agree with the practice of companies reviewing facebook profiles, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
Have you ever had something on the internet hurt your job chances? Do you think companies should use your facebook and other social sites against you?
