3:10 To Yuma

It’s that time again – Classic Movie Friday! I thought it might be a nice change from the recipes!
My classic movie pick for this Friday is the original version of “3:10 To Yuma,” from 1957. Westerns were very popular in the 1950s, and they had taken a much darker tone than fans were used to seeing. “3:10 To Yuma” is no exception.
It stars Van Heflin as a poor rancher trying to get his family through some hard financial times when he’s offered some money to make sure an outlaw under arrest is put on the train out of town. Glenn Ford is the outlaw, and he senses vulnerability in the poor rancher watching over him, so Ford decides to use that vulnerability to his advantage.
It gets very suspenseful waiting for that train to arrive and then leave at 3:10. Will Heflin get Glenn Ford on that train or will Ford win and get the upper hand over Heflin? Guess you’ll just have to watch to find out!
If this film sounds familiar then you are right. It was remade in 2007 with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale – but in my opinion the original is much better. What will you think?
Enjoy “3:10 To Yuma.”
